Ippudo was founded in 1985, and it became famous when the founder entered the Hall of Fame for winning the ramen competition of the show, “TV Champion” three consecutive times, in 1990. He also gained the title “Noodle King” after receiving the first place in the “Largest Ramen Competition in History to Decide the Noodle King”. Shortly after, in 2008, the first Ippudo ramen restaurant outside Japan was opened in New York. Now, there are Ippudo ramen shops worldwide.
Nowadays, you don’t have to go to an Ippudo restaurant to taste its tonkotsu ramen. You can also buy Ippudo instant ramen online and make it for yourself a bowl of award-winning tonkotsu ramen. Though, I argue freshly made tonkotsu ramen in an Ippudo resturant is far more than eating the ramen, but also experiencing the deep ramen culture behind the bowl.
